Marc Batista is the singer/guitarist/songwriter of the hip New York based group Batista. Born and raised on the outskirts of Spanish Harlem, this latin from Manhattan has something to offer. Prior to establishing Batista, Marc played in various groups around the city. Mostly these were rock groups. Over the years Batista slowly embraced his latin roots and infused it into his songwriting and eventually formed his own group Batista back in 2001. Through consistent gigging around the city, Batista has amazed fans and developed further as a songwriter. In his own words, the music is a “funky retro latin lounge-rock”. Fusing influences from Hendrix to Carlos Jobim to Tito Puente to Tricky and Santana, it is definitely an eclectic mix of grooves and salsa with lyrics written about the intricacies of relationships, love lost, reflection, life and a touch of deviance…..just a touch

Just what is Batista? In his own words, “Batista is a collective”. With bass, drums, saxophone, guitar, percussion and Batista with lady of choice on vocals, the collective has changed over the years. Some members come, some go. Some have stayed. Overall, Batista is determined to carry out his mission: To transform the state of song into a unique face that everyone will look at and know that it is one of a kind. “I grew up here in NYC with the salsa and the samba, the punk rock and the lounge, the concrete and the streets. Dancing and dating, drinking and thinking…..this is what I know best, might as well write about it”.
